Order in the Chaos

Order in the Chaos is a body of work about cycles, rituals, and the uneasy coexistence of structure and disorder. Every day, I take a series of medications, at specific times, in a specific order. This isn’t temporary, I will take them for life. The images in this series are quiet, intimate moments captured in the privacy of my bedroom, using only natural light from the windows. There’s a loneliness in that solitude, a stillness that speaks to the private nature of illness and the quiet labor of staying alive.

Each pill is photographed alongside a brief note of what it is and what it treats. This is only a sampling of just a few of the more critical medications. What surrounds them, though, is color: a deliberate progression through the color wheel, red, orange, yellow, green, blue-green, blue, and purple. These bright, vibrant hues speak to the order I try to impose, but also serve as a contrast to the pills themselves.

We tend to see medication and immediately think of sickness, decline, or even death. But I wanted to show something else. Taking these pills is also an act of resilience, a daily decision to live. There is chaos in illness, but there is also the small, stubborn beauty of order.

I invite you to view Order in the Chaos in its entirety below.
